14th Meeting of the Friends of the Museum of Russian Culture, April 6, 2013

At the start of the meeting N. Hidchenko presented a gift from A. D. Kochnev: orders, medals, portraits, and reproductions of paintings which belonged to his father, Colonel of the Orenburg Cossack Host D. V. Kochnev. Y. Franquien described the contents of the Kochnev Family Collection and demonstrated scans of some documents from it which had been made by N. Dragomiretzky.

Next Y. Franquien presented a survey of Russian periodicals published in China from 1904 to 1948 which are stored in the Museum’s periodical collection. He compared this collection with analogous collections held at the libraries of the University of California (Berkeley), the Hoover Institution (Stanford), and the University of Hawaii (Honolulu), and demonstrated that our Museum’s collection is richer in many respects.

T. Savina (journalist, graduate of Moscow State University) provided an overview of the Museum’s collection of poetry manuscripts, which includes works by over 270 authors.

The meeting concluded with a showing of a miraculously preserved amateur movie, filmed in 1949 by B. Klingenberg, about the life of Russian refugees on Tubabao Island.
